Does anyone remember when books used to be published in serial form? (If you do actually remember, you're probably getting on a bit.) Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins and Robert Louis Stevenson all had their books published in weekly or monthly journals before they were collected in one volume. Stephen King did it quite a few years ago now with The Green Mile - though without the benefit of a journal but with the loyalty of King's many, many loyal readers to make it a success.
Well, come October, Viking are turning the clock back. In a week's time we're going to give readers the opportunity to subscribe to a new venture: an utterly unique reading experience that harks back to the Victorian era, yet with a thoroughly modern sensibility. I'm afraid I can't say any more before next week, but I assure you that as soon as I've been given the green light, you'll be the first to know.
