Lovers of colophonic artistry should immediately check out this great collection of vintage colophons - A-G here and h-z here. My personal favourite is this one for Phantom Books - what's yours?

The Red Daggar one, without a doubt. It certainly sums up the business in one quick image (I mean, you would never think they did pocket romances, would you?)

Gotta love the morbidity, the pricing information, and most of all the miskeyed colour on Hangman's House Mark II:

Is it bad that I am SUCH a geek that I'm actually in love with this blog post? Anyone know any great vintage book sites out there?

Playtime looks good, it looks like an interesting playtime as well!
And you have to admire Death House just for the guts to do it.

I love this! I have set this

as my desktop background and I keep minimizing all my windows just so I can look at it.

It's a pity there's not a central archive for Publishers' colophons.
Even current images are difficult to locate on publishers own sites.
Having worked for many years for Wm.Heinemann, it now seems impossible to find their iconic Nicholson Windmill logo anywhere on the internet.
