Shelley

What always stuns me about Dickens is: how did he ever know all that he knew?

First time for me on this site-really great discussions on a truly talented author. I agree that his characters are so incredibly defined, but will admit to having never summoned up the courage to tackle Barnaby Rudge. Perhaps time to try something different. For all those avid readers out there, another site I enjoy visiting is http://bookreportradio.com/
You can listen to recordings of the show and gain some feedback on a variety of books reviewed.

I'm reading Barnaby Rudge for the first time, which is shameful since Dickens has been my favorite author for nearly 20 years. For some reason I always skipped over this one, though now I'm wondering why. I think it's the first true glimpse of Dickens' literary genius. I'm about halfway through, and, as is typical with Dickens, the story is picking up and the pieces of the plot are beginning to become clear. I always tell my students, "You have to be patient with Dickens, but he always pays off in the end."

Cataratas en los ojos

Barnaby Rudge is great, one of my favorites books ever.
