Why has no one else commented yet? I enjoyed reading this column. As an American, I like seeing the British perspective on Black Friday and am glad that the shoppers seemed "good natured" to you. There's quite a lot of Black Friday backlash in the U.S. Many think it's just a time for people to be greedy, materialistic, and pushy. It's refreshing to read a different take on the day.

I did see some footage on TV that showed very pushy shoppers in NY, I think. Perhaps the economic downturn has hardened their resolve! Or perhaps the good folks of Lombard, IL, are just super nice people. :)
